23 Dies in Flash Flood in Flores

Flash floods hit two districts of East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. According to East Flores Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). 23 people died, dozens of houses were damaged, and bridges were broken as a result of this disaster.

ACTNews, FLORES TIMUR —  flash floods hit villages in two districts in East Flores,  East Nusa Tenggara, Sunday (4/4/2021) at 01.00 a.m. local time. Based on a report by East Flores Disaster Management Agency at 11:45 a.m. West Indonesia Time, 23 were killed and dozens of houses were damaged and washed away.

East Flores Disaster Management Agency reported that dozens of houses in Lamanele Village, Ile Boleng District, were buried in mud. Some houses were washed away by the flood. The bridge in Waiburak Village East Adonara District was broken and four people were injured.

ACT West Nusa Tenggara Branch Manager Juanin Pratama reported that Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) East Flores volunteers were having problems accessing the area. “The only access to the location is sea crossing to Adonara Island. Meanwhile, due to heavy rain, strong wind, and high waves, the local authorities have prohibited sailing to the islands. We are still coordinating with East Flores Disaster Management Agency,” explained Juaini.[]
