ACTNews, TASIKMALAYA – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) – Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) team has again distributed clean water to drought-affected areas in Tasikmalaya. This time the water distribution was carried out by the team from day to night to ensure that the water aid was evenly distributed to the people who have been suffering from water shortage in the past few months.
On Monday (8/26), 5,000 liters of clean water were distributed to 180 families or 900 people. The distribution of clean water took place at several points in Tasikmalaya.
One of the distribution locations was Puncak Sari Hamlet, Margabakti Village, Cibeureum Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya City. The ongoing dry season and days without rain has dried out the water sources in Puncak Sari Hamlet, leading to water crisis. The villagers rely only on wells that they build in their respective houses.
"In this village, it hasn't been raining for six months, so all the wells have dried up completely. To meet their daily water needs, people must go to a steep hill and they must do it early in the morning to be able to take water before they start their daily activities," said Irfan Rais from the Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) - ACT Tasikmalaya .
For Puncak Sari residents, water is now scarce. Every time they get some water, there is no other choice for them but to use it carefully.
One of the ways that they do to conserve the water that they have is by making priorities. Irfan said that their first priority is for consumption so they put aside other needs such as bathing, for example.
"One way to conserve water is that people end up showering only once every two days. What is important for them is that they can perform ritual ablution and fulfill their water needs for their daily consumption," he said.
The distribution of clean water was not the first time to be carried out by the MRI-ACT Tasikmalaya Team. The team routinely distributes water to Puncak Sari during the dry season. Last month, 30 thousand liters of water were also distributed in three subdistricts in Tasikmalaya. One of them is Puncak Sari Village in Cibeureum Subistrict.
"Alhamdulillah, I feel greatly assisted by the water distribution. The ladies in the village also feel happy for the water distribution," said Entin, one of the local, as quoted by Berita Satu media.
