ACTNews, GARUT REGENCY  – Abah Utay (65) lives in a dilapidated house that is on the verge of collapsing. The windows were broken, so he used banners or fabric to cover them. The old roof tiles are also unable to endure rain, and as a result, the roof frequently leaks. For the past ten years, he has been plagued with this disease.

“I cannot do more. I used to work as a construction worker in another city. I do not have money to repair my house. Now, I cannot walk anymore. I cannot clean my house, let alone repair the house," said Abah Utay at his home on Jalan Malangbong, Malangbong District, Garut Regency, Wednesday (4/6/2022).

Abah Utay's health has deteriorated, and he has been unable to walk for the past eight months. His second child helps him with his everyday requirements. Even though the boy has a mental illness, his loyalty to his father can be seen in everything he does, from helping his father walk, cooking, carrying water, and caring for the ducks.

"I am the father of four children. My firstborn child died. My second and third children are people with mental disorders. I have a second son who lives with me. The third child is looked after by someone else. I have no idea where he is right now. Thankfully, My fourth child is normal and now has a family," Abah Utay remarked.

Although the situation is hard, Abah Utay chose not to follow the youngest for fear of upsetting his child. He prefers to be self-sufficient. Every day, neighbors and the village government help Abah Utay with his daily needs. "Alhamdulillah, my second child can support us, even if it is barely enough," Abah Utay said.

Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Garut visited Abah Utay's house. ACT also believes that, in collaboration with the benefactors, they will be able to assist Abah Utay in overcoming the challenges that it is now facing.

"Therefore, we at ACT started a fundraising campaign for Abah Utay. People can donate their best Ramadan alms through the Indonesia Dermawan website or the BSI Aksi Cepat Tanggap account at number 7164160027," ACT Garut Program Team member Rizky Nugraha added. []
