ACTNews, BOGOR – The ongoing Covid-19 emergency in Indonesia has affected the community to face difficulties in meeting the food and economic needs. A number of communities cannot meet their food needs amid the difficult economic situation.

“Currently, we are still short of food supply. Yes, in pesantren, our food needs are varied. Sometimes, we need meat, vegetables, and other side dishes,” said Taufik Salihin (25) one of the santris interviewed by ACTNews team, Saturday (7/31/2021).

Taufik said that the food shortage at Darut Thalibin Islamic Boarding School was suffered by 30 santris, consisting of santris who are still attending school and those who are not.

"Sometimes there are people who give us food, or the santris buy it collectively, or from the leaders of the boarding school. There are also people who help us," said Taufik.

Assistance from Gernas MUI and ACT on Saturday (7/31/2021) in Mocca Cafe Bogor, were welcomed enthusiastically by the other santris. They received Waqf Rice so that they don’t need to worry about the food supply that was running low.

“Thank you so much to the parties who gave us free rice assistance. Hopefully, it will be beneficial for us and the others. We are really in need of this assistance from the benefactors. Hopefully, this program will last for a long time,” added Taufik.[]
