– Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT)’s Emergency Response team gave away meal
packages to flood victims in Jayapura, Sunday (1/9/2022) night. Muh. Nurfuad of ACT Papua said the meals were
distributed at the humanitarian command post in Kota Baru Village, Abepura
District, Jayapura. The humanitarian command post that was established in one
of the most severely affected locales also serves as a public kitchen.
“The recipients of
the meals were very happy. Besides giving away food, our team also played and
sang with the children,” added Nurfuad, Monday (1/10/2022).
As of Monday
morning, the flooding had receded, including the three-meter-high flooding that
submerged the Youtefa Market. The locals have begun clearing their houses of
mud and debris. “Alhamdulillah, the weather has been quite sunny. Though the
flooding has receded, the locals have not resumed their normal activities
In addition to
flooding, landslides also occurred in Jayapura. These events of disaster have
caused eight fatalities, and six people were hospitalized. []
