ACTNews, KUANTAN SINGINGI – After the flashfloods that hit Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regency on Wednesday (2/27), the victims are still recovering. In Petapahan Village, Gunung Toar Sub-District, the villagers whose houses were damaged chose to live in evacuation. Others whose house were intact decided to stay.
They are in urgent need of food. To fulfill their need, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Riau along with Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) opened a public kitchen to provide meals for the flood victims in Petapahan Village.
“Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for what ACT has done. We are unable to cook, and we can’t afford to buy our own meals,” said Anto, a Petapahan villager.
ACT public kitchen will be operating for the next few days until the activities in the village go back to normal, as said by Benny Andrizal of ACT Riau program team.
Apart from opening a public kitchen, ACT also distributed other basic needs for the disaster-affected villagers. “Our team, along with volunteers from MRI, have distributed groceries, blankets, baby diapers and other basic necessities. If the disaster-hit families need medical services, we will also likely open a free clinic,” said Andrizal.
Currently, some villagers stay in their houses although their houses were damaged. Those whose houses were heavily damaged evacuate to their neighbors’ or stay inside the ruined houses.
“We are also trying to help those who lost their houses. Insha Allah, we will initiate a fundraising. May it run smoothly. Please pray for us,” said Andrizal.
