ACTNews, EAST JAKARTA — This Ramadan, the residents near Gembrong Market in Jatinegara District of East Jakarta were stricken by a disaster. On Sunday (4/24/2022), fires broke out and burned several neighborhood associations (RT) in the area. As many as 1,500 residents were affected.
Responding to the incident, Humanity Medical Services (HMS) – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) sent a medical team to help the residents, Tuesday (4/26/2022). Director of HMS - ACT Dr. Arini Retno Palupi M.D. said many residents suffered from cut wounds.
"They got injured when trying to save themselves from shattering glass and collapsing building," explained Doctor Arini, Tuesday (26/4/2022).
In addition to injuries, fire victims at Gembrong Market also experienced cephalgia or headaches, respiratory tract infection, and dyspepsia or digestive disorders. The medical services were centered at Jatinegara Community Health Center.
"Our arrival was also to help the Jatinegara Community Health Center medical personnel at the location. On the first day of the action, as many as 25 patients were successfully treated," explained Doctor Arini.
According to her, the HMS medical center at Gembrong Market will be open until it is conducive for the locals to do their daily activities. "Insha Allah, this medical center will continue to be opened until the locals’ activities return to normal.
The fire devoured several areas of Gembrong Market, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta. It is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. It began to spread at around 9:06 p.m. local time. The fire was able to be extinguished on Monday (4/25/2022) at 3:00 a.m.
