JAKARTA – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) distributed aid packages to the victims
of flooding in Tegal Alur, West Jakarta, Thursday (1/20/2022). They are still
staying in evacuation points because the flooding has not receded.
Siti Rahmah
Miroziah of ACT West Jakarta Branch said the aid packages comprised food, milk,
baby diapers and food, women supplies, and drinking water. The aid packages
were distributed to flood victims in two Neighborhood Associations (RTs) in
Tegal Alur.
“The residents of
these two RTs evacuated to four evacuation points: Tegal Alur Apartment
Building, Al-Hidayah Mosque, the space behind Olo-Olo Chicken congee stall,
Anggrek Alur Child-friendly Integrated Public Space, and Darurrohman Mosque.
There are around 743 individuals or 234 families who evacuated,” she said to
ACTNews, Friday (1/21/2022).
The flood that
submerged Tegal Alur reached 1-meter-high at its highest. Though the water
level has decreased, the residents choose to stay at evacuation points for fear
of subsequent flooding. “Because BMKG predicts that heavy rains will still fall
in Jakarta, the residents are still afraid to return home. They choose to stay
at evacuation points,” concluded Siti Rahmah. []
