ACTNews, BANTUL
– 2021 marks the tenth year since Dwi Ambaretno Ningtyas (32) first decided
to be an educator. Ambar has been working as an honorary teacher in Sewon
District, Bantul.
Like other
honorary teachers, Ambar earns only a meager salary. The payment she receives
is not commensurate with the responsibilities that she has to bear.
“Sincerity (in teaching)
is a complement to worship. If you ask me about my happy and sad moments, I
experience more happiness than sadness because I am proud to be able to disseminate
knowledge to my students. That’s what eases my sadness," said Ambar when
met on Tuesday (10/12/2021).
To make ends meet,
Ambar also works as a tutor. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has stopped her tutoring
activities.
As an appreciation
for Ambar's spirit, Global Zakat-ACT gave Ambar financial assistance through the Friends of Indonesian Teachers program.
"Alhamdulillah,
there are still many generous people who care about honorary teachers,"
said Ambar. She wished that Global Zakat-ACT would always pay attention to
honorary teachers who are affected by the pandemic. "I hope that the Friends
of Indonesian Teachers program will continue," added Ambar. []
