ACTNews, BEKASI REGENCY – The high number of daily Covid-19 cases have forced the government to extend the enforcement of Emergency Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) until August 2, 2021. The policy prolongs the hard times faced by daily workers such as city transportation drivers, small traders, motorcycle taxi drivers, and other micro business owners. In order to meet their needs, those people still have to work outside amid the stay-at-home order. Their difficult life is now getting more suffocating.
As a response, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT and Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) Bekasi Regency carried out Free Meal Operation which was distributed through Food Careline Services program in the Tambun Station area. The program that is driven by the community’s generosity aims to ease people’s burden in meeting their food needs by targeting daily workers as the beneficiaries.
“Together with MRI volunteers, we provide hundreds of free meal packages. This action is expected to relieve people’s burden amid economic difficulties during the strict period of activity restrictions,” said Linceu Deviyanti, Branch Manager of ACT Bekasi Regency, Tuesday (7/26/2021).
Enthusiastic responses came from the beneficiaries. To minimize crowds, MRI volunteers directly distributed the meal assistance to beneficiaries.
“This is our effort to alleviate hunger potential amid the pandemic difficulties which has entered its second year," added Linceu.
In addition to Bekasi, ACT and benefactors are also working to expand the benefits of Free Meal Operation to various parts of the country. ACT’s humanity food vehicles are also deployed to reach more beneficiaries in a wider range of distribution.
