ACTNews, GAZA - Fresh meat from freshly slaughtered animals was cooked by a chef in the Indonesian Public Kitchen in Gaza, Palestine. Various kinds of spices were rubbed over the meat before it was cooked. The chef also cooked rice to accompany the delicious meat dishes.
The meat and rice were to be distributed to the Palestinians as part of Global Qurban – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT)’s Global Aqiqah program. In June, Global Qurban slaughtered aqiqah goats to be cooked into various dishes in Palestine. The animals were slaughtered in a hygienic slaughterhouse to ensure the cleanliness in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team also made sure that the Indonesian Public Kitchen in which the meat was cooked is also clean and sterile.
"The meat is processed into dishes that are familiar to the local Palestinians. The cooking took place inside the Indonesian Public Kitchen in Gaza with health protocols, "Said Mukkafiy from the Global Humanity Response - ACT said.
The dishes were cooked and packaged in the Indonesian Public Kitchen, and the meal packages were delivered directly to the recipients’ houses. A total of 60 impoverished beneficiaries in Beit Hanoun received the aqiqah packages.
Ahed Almubasher, one of the beneficiaries, said that they have been in urgent need of food due to the weakening economy caused by years of blockade and the COVID-19 pandemic. "We (the Palestinian population) are increasingly in need of assistance, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that the conditions will not get worse,” he said last June.
The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the lives and livelihoods of the Palestinians. It worsens the economic condition in Gaza that is already suffering from years of blockade.
