ACTNews, JAKARTA — Senior Volunteer of Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI)-ACT Muhammad Syahri (45), usually called Bang Choy, revealed the meaning of independence for him based on a series of experiences.

According to Choy, a person can be independent if he is already prosperous. “Even though they work odd jobs, they can provide for their families. If they have not worked and have no income, they are not independent," said Bang Choy, when interviewed, Tuesday (8/16/2021).

Bang Choy continued, according to him, the meaning of independence came from his experience as a volunteer. He admits that he is not yet independent, considering that his daily needs have not been fulfilled. He only relies on salary as a neighborhood leader of IDR 1.2 million. He becomes a volunteer to seek the pleasure of Allah and sincerity to help the community.

“Independence means that all needs are fulfilled," he said.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Bang Choy ran a small business. However, it did not last long because of activity restrictions due to the pandemic.

On independence day, with the economic limitations he has, Bang Choy tried to please the children. He made small gifts to commemorate Indonesia's independence day.[]
