ACTNews, JAKARTA TIMUR — Several areas in Jakarta which are located along the Ciliwung river are often submerged during the rainy season. Not only that but the availability of clean water is also minimal and residents often but. Approaching Ramadan, the problem of clean water in RT 10, RW 01, Gadog Village, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta has not been resolved.

RT 10, RW 01, Gedong Village is right on the edge of the Ciliwung River. As many as 80 families live there and the majority work as scavengers, drivers, sellers,  and street singers. To meet the need for clean water, residents make use of existing well water. However, the volume of available water is not sufficient to meet the needs of all residents.

Head of RT 10 Muhamad Wijanarko explained that he and the residents had made wells several times but it did not produce any water. So that the residents use river water to wash their clothes. “ We’ve made well several times but the water is dirty and can’t be used,” said Wijanarko, Thursday (18/2/2021).

Wijanarko continued, in approaching Ramadan the need for clean clean water is predicted to increase, especially at the Al-Mutmainnah mosque located in RT 10. Wijanarko predicted that many residents will carry out Ramadan worship activities like tarawih and Qur’an recitation. For this reason, he hopes many benefactors will provide access to clean water for his citizens.

Based on data from DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency, to meet the need for clean water which has increased every year, clean water companies in DKI Jakarta faced a major problem, namely limited raw water sources. The rivers in Jakarta have been polluted at a high level. So they required high processing costs in order to use its water as a source of raw water.[]
