Commemorating the Indonesian National Education Day with Children in Rumah Belajar Atap Sagu

The Indonesian National Education Day which is celebrated on May 2nd, 2021 was enlivened in a different way by MRI-ACT volunteers. They held a mini entertainment event and motivated the children’s learning enthusiasm in Rumah Belajar Atap Sagu (Atap Sagu Learning House).

ACTNews, AMBON – To celebrate the Indonesian National Education Day, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) and the volunteers of Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) Maluku held Ramadan Berkisah program with the children in Atap Sagu Learning House (RASA), Waipoot Hamlet, Wakal Village, Laihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, Sunday (5/2/2021). The activity was carried out not only to entertain but also to train children to be adept at storytelling and performing in public.

Apart from telling stories, the children were encouraged to play various educational games, such as outdoor games and coloring. According to the Program Coordinator of ACT Maluku Sahri Mewar, this activity in commemorating the Indonesian National Education Day was aimed to create a learning-friendly environment for children.

“The friendly environment for children was created in order to bring a big impact on their learning,” explained Sahri.

Sahri added that the values taught to the children at home and at school need to be properly guided. Such a role of guidance is not only played by the parents but also the young generation who care for the education, including through providing a non-formal learning platform.

The event initiated by ACT and MRI Maluku in RASA was greatly welcomed by the local residents. The students’ parents were also happy since their children could take part in various games in celebrating Indonesian National Education Day. Previously. This kind of activity was barely carried out by the schools in that area.

“The activity ended with the distribution of snacks and learning gift packages. Hopefully, the learning spirit of the children can continue to grow day by day,” hoped Sahri.[]
