PINANG – December 22 is celebrated by the people of Indonesia as National Mother’s
Day. It is a custom to bring gifts, flowers, etc. as an expression of love
without necessarily making it the only day to express our love for our mothers.
Aksi Cepat Tanggap
(ACT) celebrated National Mother’s Day by delivering aid packages. One of the
recipients was Husnawati, nicknamed Grandma Acit. The woman who lives in Lampur
Village in Central Bangka lost her house to a fire that happened in July.
“We delivered
staple food packages, the fruit of the donors’ generosity, to Grandma Acit on
National Mother's Day. We wish to assist and support her amid the tribulations
that have befallen her,” said Taufik from ACT Bangka, Wednesday (12/22/2021).
Grandma Acit’s
house caught fire in July, destroying not only the building but also Grandma
Acit’s belongings inside. Not only pieces of furniture and appliances, the fire
also destroyed her savings. She was setting aside some money to buy a motorcycle
to facilitate her activities.
“Grandma Acit now
walks one kilometer to the kindergarten where she teaches every day,” said
Taufik.
ACT Bangka is now
raising funds to buy a motorbike so that she does not have to walk to work
anymore. []
