Extensive Benefits from Free Meal Operation to Communities Affected by Pandemic

Free Meal Operation has empowered food stalls affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The meals were also distributed for free to the community. Therefore, the benefits of Free Meal Operation (OMG) are very wide economically and socially.

ACTNews, SOUTH JAKARTA – The Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) have caused losses and decreases of turnover among food stalls and MSMEs owners, and informal workers. To relieve their struggle, ACT carried out Free Meal Operation (OMG) program on Friday (7/23/2021).

Emirad Jihad Fisabilillah from ACT Program Team says that the FMO program not only aims to assist the poor affected by the pandemic but also to keep small food stalls, such as wartegs, to keep running. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many food stalls shut their business down.

“We are aware that during the pandemic and Emergency PPKM enforcement, many small food stalls shut their business down. Offices are closed, there are no students around, no people buy their meals at this warteg (food stall). Meanwhile, since the dishes are already cooked, they must be finished, or they will get stale," said the man who is usually called Dede, Friday (7/23/2021).

Dede continues, through Free Meal Operation, ACT will cooperate with many food stalls in Jabodetabek to prepare the meal packages. The meals that have been purchased will be distributed to underprivileged people, online motorbike taxi drivers, or micro business owners affected by the pandemic.

"Every day, hundreds of meal packages that are cooked by dozens of food stall owners affected by the pandemic will be distributed free of charge to underprivileged communities. Therefore, many people can feel the benefits of this program every day,” he said.

The owner of Mustika Rasa food stall in West Tebet, Putri Dewi Kartika, thanked ACT for the trust in choosing her warteg to prepare meals for underprivileged people affected by the pandemic. This is Dewi's first time preparing food for ACT’s Free Meal Operation.

“Thank you, ACT. This program is very helpful to our business amid difficulty due to the pandemic and Emergency PPKM enforcement. Hopefully, the program can be expanded to other regions so that more people can be assisted,” she said.[]
