ACTNews, GARUT REGENCY – A fire ravaged the boarding rooms of the Assulaemaniah Islamic Boarding School in Cijeler Hamlet RT 01 RW 08, Leuwigoong Village, Leuwigoong District, Garut Regency. The fire devoured the building on Friday (13/5/2022) at around 12:30 p.m. local time.

The caretaker of the Assulaemaniah Islamic Boarding School, Ustaz Aap, said the students smelled burnt plastic when they were performing Friday Prayer. They also heard noises from outside the mosque, and they saw the fire had spread and burned the roof of the boarding rooms.

"At that time, the residents and students extinguished the fire manually using buckets and makeshift tools, but they couldn't do much because the fire had already spread. The fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit in room number one, as there were several damaged wires and electrical outlets,” explained Ustaz Aap.

Ustaz Aap added that the burnt room was 4 by 6 meters consisting of three smaller rooms. Books, Quran copies, and some belongings of the students were burned down. The school estimated that the material losses reached IDR 60 million. Luckily, there were no fatalities in this incident.

Responding to the fire, the Garut Branch of Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) provided assistance in the form of prayer kits and rice for the school. "Hopefully this assistance can be useful for the students. We also feel sorry for the fire that occurred. We pray that the room can be rebuilt," hoped Rizky Nugraha from the ACT Garut Program Team.
