ACTNews, JEMBER – Flash floods hit the Bumi Mangli Permai housing complex in Kaliwates District, Jember Regency, Sunday (1/9/2022). Renanda Saputra from the ACT Jember Branch said at heavy rain fell at 2:30 p.m. local time. At 4 p.m., the nearby river began overflowing and submerging residential buildings.
The flood receded at 8 p.m., and ACT Jember’s Emergency Response team sent their team to the housing complex at 7 p.m. to help the residents clean their houses, mosques, and roads that were covered in mud and debris.
“Our team left for the location at 7 p.m. to distribute aid packages. At around 8 p.m., the flood receded and the team immediately helped the residents clean houses and public facilities of mud and debris," Renanda reported Monday (1/10/2022). He added, even though the flood had receded, residents still needed meal packages and clean water.
The floods also affect other areas in Jember Regency including Rambi Puji Village in Rambi Puji District and Kemiri Village in Panti District. One resident reportedly went missing and another was killed. Around 150 houses and 3 mosques were damaged. The flash floods also broke the road in Rambi Puji District.
