ACTNews, WEST KALIMANTAN — For 14 days, floods have submerged 12 districts in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan. A total of 24,522 families or 87,496 individuals are affected, 21,000 housing units are submerged, and hundreds of public facilities are damaged by the flood. Unfortunately, the flood also claimed two lives.
Nircho Dwi Anggoro from Aksi Cepat Tanggap West Kalimantan Program Department explained that the survivors need basic assistance after the flood washed away their supplies and valuables.
"The flood victims are having difficulty getting meal packages and clean water because the waterways are contaminated and damaged," said Nircho, Tuesday (11/09/2021).
Currently, the flood survivors rely on clean water ration from donors. Hence, Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) and ACT West Kalimantan are maximizing their efforts to provide food, water, medicines, and cleaning supplies for the flood victims.
"Our efforts will certainly not be optimal without your help," said Nircho.
In addition to high rainfall, flooding in West Kalimantan is also caused by damage to watersheds and rampant land-use conversion.
