ACTNews, KAPUAS HULU — Heavy rain from Friday (9/30/2021) until Saturday (10/2/2021) has flooded five thousand residents’ houses in Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan with 50 to 150 centimeters height of water.
“Floods occurred due to heavy rainfall in Kapuas Hulu Regency these past three days,” said Gunawan, Head of Regional Agency for Disaster Management Kapuas Hulu Regency, Monday (10/4/2021).
The floods have affected approximately 217 public facilities and 7,357 families in 10 districts of Kapuas Hulu Regency. Nircho Dwi Anggoro from ACT West Kalimantan Program team says that currently, survivors are still staying in their respective houses by creating higher platforms inside their houses.
“So far, there is no evacuated resident yet. Some of them evacuate to their relatives’ houses. They chose to stay and save their belongings by creating higher platforms in their houses,” said Nircho.
Nircho continues that although assistance has been coming to the disaster site, the amount is far from enough to fulfill the survivors’ needs. “They currently need ready-to-eat meal assistance, sanitary equipment, proper clothes, and medicines,” added Nircho.
