– Heavy rains that fell in Selaawi District, Garut Regency on Thursday (1/13/2022)
caused rivers to overflow and triggered flooding and flash floods in five villages
in Selaawi: Mekarsari Village, Putrajaya Village, Selaawi Village, Samida Village,
and Pelita Asih Village.

Ridwan Effendi said flooding and landslides occurred after the rain that fell
from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
"There were
no reported fatalities. However, a house in RW 11 and in Legok Bedeng was
submerged. In addition, the flooding also submerged a futsal field," he
said, Thursday (1/13/2022).
Masyarakat Relawan
Indonesia (MRI) volunteers & team from the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Branch
of Garut Regency immediately went to the disaster-stricken locations to assess the
damages and the victims’ needs. Many of the houses and the bridge affected by
the flooding have begun to be cleaned.
"In response
to the flooding and landslides in Selaawi, volunteers from MRI and ACT have
been dispatched on Friday, January 14, 2022, to the location. Based on their
assessment, the residents need cleaning equipment, water hoses, meal packages,
and clean water," said Salhapi from MRI Garut branch. []
