Floods Hit Seven Regencies in Central Kalimantan

Floods submerged nearly 14 thousand buildings consisting of residential houses, places of worship, school and office buildings, and health facilities in seven regencies in Central Kalimantan.

ACTNews, CENTRAL KALIMANTAN – Heavy rains led to flood that hit seven regencies in Central Kalimantan. The affected regencies were West Kotawaringin, Pulang Pisau, Katingan, East Kotawaringin, Gunung Mas, and Lamandau.

In a statement received by ACTNews, the supervisor of Operation Control Center of PB Central Kalimantan, Japalmen Rajagukguk reported that as of Thursday (9/2/2021), of the seven affected regencies, 32 districts, and 151 villages were flooded.

Nearly 14 thousand buildings were flooded consisting of residential houses, places of worship, school and office buildings, and health facilities. Based on Disaster Mitigation Agency and Fire Department (BPB-PK) of Central Kalimantan’s observation in Pulang Pisau Regency, the height of the flood varied from 5 to 200 centimeters.

In West Kotawaringin, the flood covered 12 villages in two districts. In Pulang Pisau Regency, the flood affected eight villages in two districts.

In Katingan regency, 67 villages in 13 districts inhabited by 13,013 families were affected. In East Kotawaringin, the flood hit 51 villages in six districts inhabited by 10,585 residents.

In Seruyan Regency, two villages in a district were affected, while in ​​Lamandau Regency three villages in three districts with a total of 33 families or 102 residents were affected.

The flood was likely caused by the combination of heavy rains, tides, and overflows along the drainage basins. []
