ACTNews, NORTH LUWU — Flash floods hit North Walenrang District, Lamasi District, East Walenrang District, and West Walenrang District in North Luwu Regency of South Sulawesi, Sunday (10/3/2021).
Heavy rain that had fallen since Sunday night caused the river in the area to overflow. The nearby Batusitanduk dam breached, causing water to inundate some houses along the banks of the river. The locals were forced to evacuate because the flood also carried mud, wood, and rocks.
"In the evacuation site, the evacuees need meal packages, clean water, baby supplies, and sleeping mats," said Suharni from ACT South Sulawesi Program Department, Monday (10/4/2021).
Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) and Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) rescue team along with the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team were able to reach isolated villages in North Walenrang District, and they managed to rescue the residents that were unable to get out.
In addition to flooding, West Walenrang District was also hit by a landslide. In Ilan Batu Village, a residential building was buried. To date, no casualty has been recorded.
