ACTNews, SIDENRENG RAPPANG – Regional Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Sindereng Rappang (Sidrap) reported that floods submerged four districts in Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi including Panca Lautang, Tellu Limpoe, Dua Pitue, and Pitu Riawa Districts.

“For the floods in Sidrap Regency, we received information that there are four districts affected by the floods. Currently, as the initial step, we are still conducting an assessment process,” said BPBD Sidrap Rescue Team Coordinator, Ardy, Wednesday (9/1/2021).

He also asks the residents in flooded areas to increase their vigilance by finding a safer place if the water level continues to rise. "We recommend the residents to evacuate themselves if the water level continues to rise," said Ardy.

Floods in Sidrap Regency were the result of the high intensity of heavy rain these past few days. In addition, the Sidrap area which is directly adjacent to the lake makes it easy for the water volume to overflow.

More than two meters high water submerged the residents’ houses in Wette Village, Panca Lautang District, Sidrap Regency. “The water is already more than two meters high here. Many of the residents have evacuated themselves to their relatives’ houses,” said a flood survivor, Baba.

Baba explained that the flood in his area was a seasonal flood caused by the overflowed water from the lake. “Usually, the water even continues to rise up to the stilts house floor,” he said.[]
