ACTNews, YOGYAKARTA – The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many disadvantages to the community’s economic sector. Economic difficulty is also faced by the porters in Lempuyangan Station, Yogyakarta. As porters, their income relies on the train passengers. However, during activity restrictions, the amount of passengers has been drastically decreased.

The decline of income has caused difficulty to the porters in meeting their food needs. Therefore, Aksi Cepat Tanggap team provided food package assistance for Lempuyangan Station Porters.

Kharis Pradana from ACT Yogyakarta Program Team explained that the assistance aims to support and relieve the porters’ burden amid their decreased income. Food packages are a form of concern from the benefactors to workers affected by the pandemic.

“This food package assistance is hoped to ease their food expense. This action is also an appreciation to the porters for working enthusiastically to make a living,” said Kharis, Wednesday (8/4/2021).

Rusdi (61), a porter who received the assistance, said that he benefited greatly from ACT's food package assistance. During the pandemic, his income is very small to the point he had to sell his motorcycle in order to meet his family’s needs.

“Thank you, ACT team and the benefactors for this food package. May Allah bless and reward all of your kindness,” said Rusdi.[]
