ACTNews, NORTH HALMAHERA – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT)’s Emergency Response Team distributed 90 food packages to earthquake victims in Bailengit and Soamaetek villages, North Halmahera Regency, Tuesday (1/11/2022).

Ancum Sur from Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) of North Maluku said that food assistance was provided to help meet the basic needs of the victims because they have not started working so they live with limited food supplies.

“Many residents have fled to their relatives' houses. Some residents whose houses were damaged set up tarp tents yards and empty lots. They are too afraid to return home, fearing that aftershocks might occur and cause their houses to collapse. They also don’t have money for food,” said Ancum.

He explained that around 187 families in Bailengit Village, West Kao District were affected. In Soameatek Village, nineteen houses suffered from major damages and 91 houses suffered from minor damages.

Currently, the earthquake victims in North Halmahera need food, blankets, tents, and mattresses. Three days after the earthquakes, they have not resumed their activities normally. []
