Free Healthcare to Maintain the Health of Lombok Residents Ahead of Ramadan

ACTNews, EAST LOMBOK – The residents of Bilok Petung Hamlet in Sajang Village of Sembalun Sub-District, East Lombok, received free healthcare from Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) on Tuesday (4/30) and Wednesday (5/1). The free healthcare was provided in order to monitor and maintain the health condition of Lombok earthquake survivors as Ramadan is coming in few days.

M. Romi Saefudin of ACT West Nusa Tenggara Program Team said that the free healthcare involved 11 medical volunteers. Around 130 families benefitted from the free medical service.

“They had their blood pressure checked. It turned out that many had high blood pressure, sore joints, etc. We gave them the medications that they needed,” explained Friday (5/3).

The team from ACT West Nusa Tenggara also gave counseling to the locals about healthy lifestyle. During Ramadan, many people can’t keep their healthy lifestyle, resulting in illnesses that may disturb their worship.

“For instance, they are required to stay hydrated by drinking eight cups of water a day. They are also advised to keep doing their physical activities. All of these need to be done to keep their body healthy in the month of Ramadan,” said Dian, an ACT medical volunteer.

Dian, who is also a lecturer in a health campus in Mataram, also said that healthy lifestyle is essential. The people who are still in recovery phase after the earthquake last August will experience a different Ramadan compared to the previous years. “Therefore, it is important for them to prepare their physical condition to face a different Ramadan compared to the previous years.

Few days before, to welcome the month of Ramadan, ACT also distributed hundreds of food packages in Lombok. The earthquake survivors spread across several locations received food packages to welcome the month of Ramadan that will begin in early May 2019. []
