ACTNews, EAST JAKARTA - Food is still an urgent need for poor families
during the pandemic. Many of them haven’t been able to make ends meet due to
the worsening economic condition.
To support the
needy, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) held free rice distribution in Cawang, East
Jakarta, on Wednesday (11/11). Using the Humanity Rice Truck, 1,500 kilograms
of rice were handed out to 300 families. The beneficiaries queued in front of
the automated rice dispenser on the side of the truck.
"There are
many poor residents living in densely populated settlements around the skyscrapers
in Cawang. They are the targets of this free rice distribution, "explained
Wurriantoro from the Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) East Jakarta Program Department.
The distribution
of free rice was carried out in the Gang Arus Dalam area, Cawang. The rice that
was distributed was produced by farmers assisted by ACT. Hopefully, the Free Rice
Operation can fulfill the beneficiaries’ needs for some time.
"The
majority of beneficiaries of the Rice Waqf in Cawang were casual workers, peddlers
and daily labors. They were grateful for the assistance,” added Wuri.
The distribution
of Waqf Rice in Cawang, East Jakarta is one of many food distribution programs
that ACT has launched. In East Jakarta, ACT and its partners also provide free
food through the Food Alms Gathering Point.
"The food
distribution programs are initiated by ACT and supported by the generous donors
to assist underprivileged people," explained Wuri. []
