ACTNews, YOGYAKARTA – GlobalGiving, a humanitarian organization from the United States, collaborates with Aksi Cepat Tanggap Special Region of Yogyakarta to provide direct assistance to communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Ngawen and Tepus Districts, Gunung Kidul Regency. A total of 205 people received food packages that were distributed in early November 2020.

The recipients of this food aid were elderly people who work as farmers, those who have recently lost their jobs, families with children with disabilities, and people who have no family members left. Food packages consisting of staple food packages such as rice, oil, sugar, and tea, were delivered directly to the residents' homes.

Tukinah, a resident of Pudak Village, Tepus, was among the beneficiaries of the food package distribution. She lives alone, and cultivates a plot of land to grow vegetables and provide for her daily needs. "Alhamdulillah, thank you very much. Thank you very much,” said Turkinah.

Kharis Pradana from the ACT Yogyakarta Program Department explained that the beneficiaries had been previously assessed by the volunteers from Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI). "The food aid distribution aims to help people affected by the pandemic, especially the elderly, especially the sickly ones. The food package assistance shows that there are still people who care for the needy," said Kharis. []
