ACTNews, ROKAN HILIR - Aisyah (60), a resident of Panipahan Village, Pasir Limau District, Rokan Hilir Regency, has been paralyzed for several years. She lives alone in a dilapidated shack. The roofs of the shack get leaky every time rain falls.
Aksi Cepat Tanggap and Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia met Aisyah when they were delivering food parcels from GlobalGiving in mid-November 2020. Aisyah was one of 200 beneficiaries of the food parcel distribution from GlobalGiving in Riau Province.
ACT Duri Program Coordinator Syahru Ramadhan explained that the main beneficiaries of the food parcel distribution were elderly women who live alone in poverty. "We aim to help the elderly women during the pandemic because they have no sources of income. Even if they have family members they can depend on, these family members have been laid off due to the pandemic,” added Syahru.
Apart from Rokan Hilir Regency, ACT Duri also delivered food parcels to Pangkalan Pinang Village in Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency. To reach the village which is located on Rupat Island, the team needed to go by boat. It took approximately seven hours of travel by land and sea to reach the distribution point.
