Heavy Rain Causes Flooding and Landslide in Ciganjur South Jakarta

The torrential rain that hit several areas in Jakarta on Saturday (10/10) afternoon led to flooding and landslide in Ciganjur, South Jakarta. ACT's Disaster Emergency Response (DER) dispatched its rescue team to evacuate the locals and anticipate emergencies.

ACTNews, JAKARTA – Heavy rain and strong winds hit several areas in Jakarta on Saturday (10/10) afternoon, causing floods at several locations, including in Jagakarsa Urban Village of Ciganjur District, South Jakarta. The 1-meter flood had even caused a landslide in one of the neighborhoods, as revealed by Irfan of Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) Greater Jakarta.

"The Emergency Response team that consists of 5 people has now arrived at the location. We have talked to the representatives of the locals, and now we focus on rescuing the residents, and we are also on standby if they need urgent assistance," said Irfan.

A rescue vehicle and an inflatable boat were dispatched to help evacuating the locals. "We still have no data on the total affected residents, " said Irfan.

The team reported that one casualty occurred and two others were in critical condition. Around 1,200 people had evacuated to three evacuation sites while some stayed in their relatives’ homes which were not affected by the flood. Irfan invites the community to support the flood victims during this emergency phase.
