ACTNews, CENTRAL JAKARTA — Hidayatullah (49) is a Quran teacher in Al-Makmur Mosque, Kebon Kacang Village, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta. Teaching the Quran for him is a passion. He never expects anything from his activity as a Qur'an teacher. He is determined to invest his life in providing knowledge to read the Quran.

"Life is short and I can only read the Quran. I have nothing to donate except my time and energy. I am determined to voluntarily teach the Quran to the children at the mosque so that my life is useful, ”said Hidayat, Thursday (4/29/2021).

On the other hand, as the head of the family, Hidayat still has to make a living. Hidayat has become an online motorcycle taxi driver with an uncertain income to meet his family’s needs.

“My income is uncertain. Sometimes, I can get IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000 and if I have many customers, I can earn IDR 300,000. I must be grateful even though my income is low because the sustenance is not only in the form of money. It can be in the form of road safety while driving or health amid the pandemic,” said the teacher who has taught the Quran for seven years.

Mochamad Fuad Mursidi from Global Zakat-ACT Central Jakarta Program team said Hidayat's persistence and sincerity in preaching are highly commended by others. According to Fuad, nowadays, not many people were consistent in choosing the path of struggle with zero financial rewards. Hence, to support Hidayat’s struggle, Global Zakat-ACT assisted him.

“It is hard to find someone who consistently teaches the Quran, especially in a big city like Jakarta. Global Zakat-ACT distributes financial assistance to support the struggle of the preachers. The assistance comes from benefactors who pay their zakat,” explained Fuad.

Fuad also invited the benefactors who have not paid their zakat, either zakat-ul-mal or zakat-ul-fitr to pay immediately because, in the second year of Ramadan amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of underprivileged people has increased.[]
