ACTNews, SUKABUMI REGENCY – The services of teachers as educators are often not compatible with the salaries they receive. This is experienced by honorary teachers at Islamic-based schools in Central Pondokkaso Village, Cidahu District, Sukabumi Regency, Lia Roupal Ummah, and Sopiyandi.
Both teach two classes each. Lia teaches third and fourth grades while Sopiyandi teaches fifth and sixth grades. Their salary is far from Sukabumi Regency District Minimum Wage (UMK) in 2021, which is IDR 3.1 million.
“The salary of an honorary teacher is IDR 200 thousand a month. I am still grateful because I am still healthy," said Sopiyandi, Friday (9/3/2021).
Lia Roupal Ummah said the same thing. According to Lia, she cannot meet her daily needs with her salary. Hence, she must find additional income.
“Besides teaching, I run a small shop at home. The profit is not much, but Alhamdulillah it is enough for daily meals,” said Lia when met by ACT team in Sukabumi Regency, Friday (9/3/2021).
Dani Firdaus from ACT Sukabumi team says that their love for teaching never diminished, although the salaries of honorary teachers are far from decent. This attitude is exemplary to do in other activities. "They are pure to serve without thinking about money," concluded Dani.[]
