ACTNews, PEKANBARU - Since COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the price of masks has skyrocketed. They have also become very scarce, even for medical workers who are working at the forefront in dealing with COVID-19 patients.

Since the beginning of COVID-19 outbreak in Asia, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) has taken actions of mitigation, such as by providing medical counseling to the community and distributing masks to the community and healthcare workers.

In Pekanbaru, Riau, ACT Riau handed over masks to medical workers in several hospitals in Pekanbaru, Thursday (3/26). "A total of 320 pieces of masks were handed over to health workers in three hospitals in Pekanbaru," explained Benny Andrizal from ACT Riau’s Program Department.

The three hospitals were Awal Bros Hospital Pekanbaru, Awal Bros Hospital Ahmad Yani, and Syafira Hospital. These masks will be used by the health workers in need. They have been facing scarcity of face masks due to skyrocketing prices and high demand.

Dr. Dedi Agusmar, one of the doctors at the hospital, appealed to the public to remain at home and not to gather in crowds. This method was taken to prevent the possibility of spreading COVID-19. "People must take care of themselves and others. It is for our own good, "he explained.

ACT has carried out actions to mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Not only distributed masks for medical workers, ACT Riau also provided masks to passers-by. This action was accompanied by disinfecting public places. In addition, there will also be a distribution of food aid to underprivileged communities who are indirectly affected by the outbreak.

In Jakarta, since a few weeks ago, ACT has started to collaborate with dozens of wartegs to provide free meals to informal workers. The distribution of free meals aims to alleviate the difficulties of those who are economically impacted by the COVID-19. []
