Iftar Amidst Ruins in Gaza

The iftar gatherings are held in neighborhoods devastated by Israeli attack

ACTNews, GAZA – It was late afternoon. One after another, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip gathered at an open field that is surrounded by ruins. They are the victims of the Israeli attacks in early Ramadan who lost their homes.

One of them was Abu Zaida’s family, who came to participate in the mass iftar held by Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) from Friday (5/24) to Sunday (5/26). Despite still strongly remembering how their houses were destroyed, the mass iftar event in the Gaza Strip is still filled with serenity.

Like the previous iftar meal distributions, the iftar packages that were distributed on that day were cooked in the Indonesian Public Kitchen in Gaza. Every day, various nutritious dishes are cooked and prepared to feed the Palestinians during the month of Ramadan.

Andi Noor Faradiba of Global Humanity Response (GHR) – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) stated that ACT, through its local volunteers in Gaza, continue assisting the people of Gaza by providing iftar meals. In three days, from Friday (5/24) to Sunday (6/26), ACT has reached 567 Palestinians living in Gaza Strip.

“The mass iftar in Gaza is targeted to reach the poor, the elderly, hospital patients, children, people who lost their homes, and the residents of the neighborhoods that were attacked by Israel, such as Abu Zaida’s family,” explained Faradiba, Monday (5/27).

Not only in Abu Zaida’s neighborhood, but the mass iftar was also held in Beit Lahia, in the house of a local resident named Salman. Salman’s family which consists of four brothers savored iftar meals from Indonesian Public Kitchen with hundreds of their neighbors.

“We are assisting them by providing them iftar meals. Although the mass iftar was held amidst the ruins of their houses, they looked very patient as they enjoyed the iftar meals that we gave them, Alhamdulillah,” mentioned Faradiba.

In the month of Ramadan, ACT will continue giving the best for the Palestinians by providing iftar meals to the Palestinians in Gaza. Apart from that, ACT also supplied foodstuff packages from the Indoensia Humanitarian Center to the needy families in Palestine. []
