ACTNews, GAZA - Food packages from the Indonesia Humanitarian Center (IHC) in Gaza, Palestine, were distributed to the people of Gaza who live in difficulties amid pandemic and humanitarian crisis. The aid packages were specifically aimed to ease the burden of those who have been unable to make ends meet.

"The food distribution took place in three regions in Gaza City where many impoverished families live. They do not have stable sources of income, and many of them have family members who have been suffering from illnesses, including blindness,” reported Said Mukkafiy from the Global Humanity Response (GHR) - Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT).

The staple food packages also brought happiness to the orphans who were very grateful for the aid channeled by their Indonesian brothers and sisters. Each staple package consisted of rice, salt, sugar, oil, canned meat, canned cheese, beans, tahini, chili sauce, semolina flour, and other staple food items. No less than 1,000 people received the food packages which were purchased directly from the local stores.

"The distribution of food packages is very beneficial for the poor families to provide food for their children and also for the local grocers because they can at least make some money from our purchase of the staple food items,” "added Said. The aid distribution took place from Saturday (12/5) to Tuesday (12/8).

Apart from the conflict, the monthly income of workers in Gaza has fallen by almost 90 percent since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs, leaving them unable to buy food.

"Food crisis is one of the worst problems in the Gaza Strip. Living in a besieged area, many of the Gazans live in poverty and financial problems that make their food crisis even worse," added Said. This condition is exacerbated by the winter that has begun to come in Gaza.

Aksi Cepat Tanggap, as an Indonesian humanitarian institution that also focuses on international issues is raising funds to support the Palestinians during winter through the Indonesia Dermawan website. ACT also offers donation packages through which the donors can choose between IDR 560,000 and IDR 935,000 donation packages for Palestinian families.

"Insha Allah, our efforts can help the Palestinians, including those living in Gaza, in facing winter. Food packages and winter gear means a lot for them. You can participate in supporting the Palestinians through the Indonesia Dermawan website or by donating directly to our BNI Syariah account at 6600003314 in the name of Aksi Cepat Tanggap," concluded Said.
