Indonesia's Generosity Reaches Out to the Rohingya in Late Ramadan

In the last ten days of Ramadan, the generous benefactors continue supplying food to the Rohingya

ACTNews, RAKHINE – The generosity of the philanthropists reached the Rohingya IDPs in Camp Manzi in Sittwe, Myanmar. On Tuesday (5/28), hundreds of food packages were delivered directly to the Rohingya who have live in refuge since two years ago. They were gathered. One after another, each package that contains rice, cooking oil, flour, juice and milk were distributed.

Sucita Ramadinda of Global Humanity Response (GHR) – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) said that the distribution of the food packages for the Rohingya refugees were initiated in the month of Ramadan, especially near Eid-ul-Fitr.

“The Rohingya Muslims in Arakan live in poverty under repression by Myanmar Military. They were blockaded. They have no sources of income, and they have no means to get food. Therefore, ACT keeps working to fulfill their most basic need i.e. food,” explained Ramadinda, Friday (5/31).

This Ramadan, ACT and the benefactors keep working to give the best aid to the Rohingya IDPs in Myanmar and refugees in Bangladesh. Ramadinda reported that, during this distribution, 100 families in camp Manzi received the food packages.

Apart from food packages, the Rohingya IDPs in Sittwe and Buthidaung also received iftar packages. For five days, from Saturday (5/25) to Wednesday (5/29). The iftar packages were supported by the generosity of the people of Indonesia donated through ACT. “This month, ACT served iftar packages to 1,350 Rohingya Muslims in Arakan,” explained Ramadinda.

The food packages have brought happiness to the Rohingya IDPs. One of them was Sawlay Ma Khatu. He said that he had nothing, not even enough decent clothes for the members of his family. “Alhamdulillah, we really thank ACT that helps us to face the problems. We have quite a lot and no one here has a permanent job. Everyone depends on food aid,” said Ma Khatu.

Apart from Rakhine, in the same week, iftar packages were also distributed in Bangladesh, supported by the people of Indonesia. In Bangladesh, the iftar packages were distributed in Camp Balukhali from Sunday (5/26) to Tuesday (5/28). []
