ACTNews, JAKARTA – UNHCR noted that, by early 2020, there are over 86.5 million refugees around the world, 6.6 million of whom are Syrian refugees running from the civil war that has been going on for a decade. They have sought refuge in the surrounding countries including Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and Turkey.
Aksi Cepat Tanggap act on behalf of the people of Indonesia to channel humanitarian aid on a regular basis. There are various aid distribution programs that have been initiated, including distribution of food, clean water, and clothing.
"From Syrian and Yemeni IDPs, Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Rohingya IDPs, to Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh have benefitted from the kindness of Indonesian people,” said Firdaus Guritno from ACT's Global Humanity Response in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/18/2021).
Indonesia has a special place in the hearts of refugees and IDPs. At the 76th Indonesian Independence Day, they send their greetings and best wishes amid their own difficulties. They also sent their best prayers as they waved the Indonesian flags in their hands.
“We would like to congratulate our beloved Indonesia on their day of independence. May Allah bless you. Your happiness is our happiness too,” said one Syrian refugee who lives in a refugee camp in Ketermaya, Lebanon.
A Yemeni child IDP said also expressed her gratitude for the help that she has received from the people of Indonesia. Thanks to the aid from Indonesia through ACT, her family’s life has been greatly assisted. “Thank you ACT, thank you Indonesia. Happy independence day," she said, waving a red and white sign that reads Happy Independence Day My Indonesian Brothers and Sisters.
