Jayapura Fire Survivors Receive Emergency Assistance

Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) and Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) volunteers were dispatched to assist fire victims in Jayapura. Aid packages consisting of mats, medical supplies, and food were distributed.

ACTNews, JAYAPURA – Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) and Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) volunteers distributed aid packages to fire survivors behind Youtefa Market in Jayapura City, Papua. 128 fire survivors received the aid packages, and the volunteers also performed an assessment to find out what the survivors need in the aftermath of the fire.

“We distributed items that are urgently needed by the survivors such as mats, face masks, and foodstuffs," said Haris Husen of ACT Jayapura, Friday (10/1/2021).

Husen added the evacuees also need clean water. After the fire, clean water at the fire site is not really adequate.

Hundreds of houses in the housing complex behind Youtefa Market in Jayapura City of Papua were burned down on Tuesday (9/28/2021).  The cause of the fire is yet to be found, but the material losses are estimated at IDR 10 billion.

"There are around 400 families suffering from material losses as hundreds of houses were burned down, with an estimated total loss of IDR 10 billion," said Abepura Police Chief AKP Lintong Simanjuntak.[]
