– Floods and landslides occurred in Jayapura, Friday (1/7/2021) caused by
heavy rains that fell from Thursday (1/6/2022) night until Friday morning.
Muh Nurfuad from
Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Papua branch reported that almost all roads in the
center of Jayapura City were drowned. Even the Papua Governor's Office and
Aryoko Hospital were completely submerged. The flood with a maximum height of
two meters inundated five districts namely North Jayapura, South Jayapura,
Abepura, Heram and Muara Tami.
“The roads from the Apo gas station to the
center of Jayapura City are completely flooded. Our emergency response team
has participated in the evacuation," said Nurfuad to ACTNews, Friday (1/7/2022).
Meanwhile, the
landslide that occurred in Klofkamp, Jayapura City, claimed a number of
lives. Electricity in Jayapura City also went out from Thursday night to Friday
morning. “The buried residents have not been found. The intensity of rain is
also still high, making Jayapura prone to subsequent landslides," he
explained. []
