ACTNews, BANDUNG – ACT and MRI Bandung rescue team, together with the joint team from BASARNAS and Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Board, have found a drowning victim in Citarum River, Bojongmalaka Village, Baleendah Sub-district, Bandung District. The body identified as M. Roynaldi (39) was found on Thursday (13/2). The body was found after the joint teams searched the river for three days.
According to Atep Salman Al-Farisi, the Chief of the Rescue Team of MRI Bandung District, the victim drowned on Monday (12/2), when his friends and he were relaxing at the bank of Citarum River.
“At that time, Royhan, who were unable to swim, slipped and fell to the Citarum river. He was drowned and carried by the strong current of Citarum river. Then the witnesses and Royhan’s family reported to the police station. The police then sought help from the teams from BASARNAS, Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Board, and MRI-ACT Bandung District. After the police contacted us, we immediately conduct the search,” explained Farisi.
Similar statement was also said by the public relation coordinator of BASARNAS West Java, Joshua Banjarnahor. He said that, previously, Bandung Search and Rescue received a report of a drowning victim. This report was received directly from Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Board who received this information from Baleendah police station.
“After receiving the report, we immediately went to the location and collaborated with many parties, such as the police, Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Board, and MRI-ACT rescue team. The joint team tried to find the victim by searching the river,” said Banjarnahor.
The searching process was long and arduous. It took three days for the joint team to find the victim and evacuated him.
“Incredibly, this search is one of the longest we’ve ever conducted. Among eight search and rescue operations we’ve done, this was among the most exhausting ones. For three days, from morning to dusk, we searched Citarum River,” said Farisi
The body was found at 8 A.M. MRI-ACT rescue team, together with the joint team immediately hand over the body to his family. MRI-ACT rescue team was also involved in washing the body and preparing for the funeral.
“Alhamdulillah, the exhausting effort of the joint team consisting of 10 members of the MRI-ACT Bandung District team, 10 members of BASARNAS, 7 policemen and 15 members of Bandung Regional Disaster Mitigation Board, the local villagers finally came to fruition,” he concluded.
