ACTNews, BANJARNEGARA — Heavy rain fell in Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java on Thursday (10/21/2021), causing a landslide to hit the village of Mlaya in Punggelan district.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Regional Disaster Management Board (BPBD) of Banjarnegara Regency Andri Sulistyo said the landslide was caused by a number of contributing factors, including heavy rains and unstable soil.

"We recorded that three villages in three sub-districts were affected. They are Mlaya Village in Punggelan District, Karekan Village in Pagentan District, and Susukan Village in Wanayasa District," he said.

The landslide damaged one house, and the road connecting Karekan Village to Darmayasa Village was blocked by debris.

The Head of Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) of Purwokerto Zuhal Qolbi said that a resident was also reportedly killed, and another was injured in the landslide. "Until now, there have been no further reports," said Qolbi.

Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) Center for Disaster Data, Information and Communication, Abdul Muhari explained that according to the disaster risk assessment index (InaRisk), the Banjarnegara Regency area has a moderate to high level of landslide risk. InaRisk records that there are at least 20 sub-districts that are at risk of landslides with an area of ​​up to 52,593 hectares.
