ACTNews, JAKARTA – It is almost certain that one will prepare for months before entering their dream school. Such will also be the case with someone who expects a very special guest that will pay a visit to one’s abode. We Muslims should also behave in a similar way when welcoming the month of Ramadan, said Ustaz Hilman Fauzi, an Indonesian Muslim preacher.

"When the news reaches us that the blessed month of Ramadan is coming, we should make the the best preparation to make sure we don’t waste it away. I am afraid that Ramadan comes and goes without us taking the best advantage in that month.” explained Ustaz Hilman in an online Islamic class held by Aksi Cepat Tanggap on Tuesday (3/16/2021).

Ustaz Hilman said, the purpose of fasting according to the Quran is to make us righteous. He invites the audience to reflect, ask themselves how many times they have spent the month of Ramadan, and have it actually made them more righteous.

It is important to prepare to meet the month of Ramadan. The provision to meet Ramadan is important. Therefore, Ustaz Hilman described four aspects that must be prepared before the arrival of Ramadan. First is the preparation of the heart. Ustaz Hilman continued, quoting a hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, that if the heart is sound, the whole body will be sound. Hence, a sound heart is important in welcoming Ramadan.

"I am afraid that our hearts are still shackled by worldly things. In fact, Ramadan should be a bright spot for us. An oasis in the midst of our anxiety,” he explained. Cleansing our hearts can be done through forgiving each other, making supplications, and being happy with the arrival of Ramadan.

The second is the preparation of knowledge, starting with studying the rulings of fasting and other acts of worship during Ramadan. Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) of fasting and related acts of obedience needs to be intensively studied during Ramadan.

The third preparation is increasing the number of charities before Ramadan. Based on the hadith, the Prophet fasted a lot in the month of Shaaban. "Let us prepare also by doing more acts of charity so that when Ramadan arrives, we will already be accustomed to doing acts of kindness,” he added. To further totally prepare ourselves for Ramadan, it is also advisable to repent from previous sins.

The final preparation, according to Ustaz Hilman, is the preparation of wealth. The Prophet Muhammad once said, whoever helps break the fast of a fasting person will have the same reward as him without decreasing anything from the reward of the fasting person.

“My dear friends, let’s try to prepare our wealth not just to buy new clothes on Eid and equipment that we use in the month of Ramadan. Let’s also allot some of the wealth to help those in need,” said Ustaz Hilman.

He invited all generous people to prepare to welcome this special month the best we can so that the upcoming Ramadan will be full of goodness and blessing. Ramadan is the month where people are encouraged to perform their zakat, both zakat-ul-mal and zakat-ul-fitr. Ustaz Hilman stressed that the Prophet used to increase his sadaqah (voluntary almsgiving) in Ramadan. "In another hadith, it is said that the best alms are those given in the holy month of Ramadan," explained Ustadz Hilman. []
