ACTNews, EAST JAKARTA – Behind the splendor city of Jakarta, there are still many marginalized people who are living in social inequality. In Cawang, East Jakarta, in the midst of the skyscrapers and luxurious apartments, there is a settlement that consists of shabby and semi-permanent houses.
Wednesday (7/21/2021), Global Qurban-ACT team brought an huge cow to be slaughtered and distributed to the residents of the said settlement. At least 300 people could enjoy Qurbani meat from the benefactors.
Wuryanto of ACT East Jakarta Program Team said that each family got at least one and a half kilograms of Qurbani meat. "Most of them here are workers with uncertain incomes. Some are drivers, scavengers, small traders, and many are unemployed. We chose this location because it is prone to disasters, especially flooding. This area has been regularly flooded due to the prolonged heavy rains in Jakarta," explained Wuryanto.
The local head of RT, Hajrianto thanked Global Qurban-ACT for the assistance distribution in his area. For Hajrianto, the residents in his neighborhood rarely enjoy meat dishes, so the Qurbani meat distribution was enthusiastically welcomed by the residents.
“Thank you ACT for helping society. As the name implies, ACT always acts quickly without hesitation to help those in need. ACT has helped the residents here many times. Previously, ACT has also built a Waqf Well and distributed free rice to many families here," said Hajrianto.
On a different occasion in Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta, similar action was also carried out on Thursday (7/22/2021). At least, 300 residents of Kampung Pulo became the recipients of Qurbani meat distribution, including underprivileged people who live in flood-prone areas.
