ACTNews, NORTH JAKARTA – A lot of teachers’ welfare in North Jakarta are still below the standard. Those teachers are living a very simple lifestyle. However, it doesn’t make them give up in fighting by teaching and preaching voluntarily, especially to the children. The preachers pay attention to them so that the children can get a proper education.

One of the preachers who devotes himself in the North Jakarta area, precisely in Kebon Pisang, Tanjung Priok, is Ahmad. The teacher of Nurul Dholam Mosque and Middle School remains steadfast with various challenges in preaching.

“When I first came to this place (Kebon Pisang), I was asked about what I wanted to do. I answered that I wanted to learn the Quran, but I was being ostracized and belittled,” recalled Ahmad when he was visited by the ACT team at the end of May.

Although the welcome was not good when Ahmad first arrived, he was not afraid. He continues to spread Islamic values. Particularly to the children, he wants to maintain and strengthen their faith amid the rapid progress of the environment and era. Ahmad also wants to prevent the children and adults from doing prohibited actions of the religion.

Fruit of Ahmad’s struggles appeared through his many students who are able to continue their studies in various Islamic boarding schools. One of them is in a popular Islamic boarding school in East Java. He is very grateful for being able to change the life of the local residents where he lives, especially the children.

To appreciate Ahmad’s struggle as a teacher, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) delivered a food package at the end of May. Through the Friends of Indonesian Preachers and Friends of Indonesian Teachers programs, the assistance is hoped to be a motivation for the moral fighters.

Harun Basalamah from ACT North Jakarta Program Team said that apart from Ahmad there are more teachers and preachers who have received the same assistance in Kampung Bahari, under the Papanggo Toll Road, and Kebon Pisang. This appreciation is support and continuation of the kindness program that has been running since a few months ago.

“In North Jakarta, there are many preachers and teachers who serve a challenging environment to spread Islam and convey religious messages. ACT wants to continue to accompany them, either in the form of food packages or living expenses or even further assistance,” explained Harun.[]
