ACTNews, NORTH ACEH REGENCY – Flash floods hit several districts in North Aceh Regency on Thursday (9/30/2021) night at 10.00 p.m Western Indonesia Time. Based on the report, floods inundated several residential areas until Friday (10/1/2021). Based on data from the North Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), floods affected more than 2,000 residents.

Hidayatullah from Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Lhokseumawe Program Team said the water level, which was 50 cm, had gradually risen and submerged many houses. Based on the team's observations, the flood height was estimated to be around 1.5 meters to two meters. "For now, the water level in several areas in Samudera district, North Aceh, is starting to rise," he said when contacted on Friday morning.

From the video received by ACTNews Team, the flood currents seemed to be heavy and carried a lot of woods and debris. The brown water hit the residents' houses and dragged the tarps around the residential areas. The rain also showed no sign of stopping.

Hidayatullah continued that the flood was caused by high rainfall for almost three hours from 06.00 p.m till 09.00 p.m Western Indonesia Time. Heavy rain caused the Krueng Pasee River to overflow and inundate some of the residents' houses. “There are two broken embankment areas. The first area is Gampong Teupin Jok, and the second area is Gampong Mancang. Both are in the Samudera district," he said.

Currently, the affected victims were evacuated to neighboring houses in a safe place. The team also prepared public kitchens in two evacuation areas. “They are currently in dire need of assistance such as food, clothing, and some medicines. Hopefully, we can fulfill this need in the future," he explained. []
