ACTNews, PADANG – The economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has
burdened many people across Indonesian regions. Many of them lost jobs or
sources of income, leading to an increase in poverty. Both big companies and
MSMEs have to face the dire crisis. A solution is needed to at least help each
other within one’s own vicinity.
In response to
the current difficulties, ACT West Sumatera launched the National Movement for
Food Alms Gathering on Wednesday (8/12) as an extension of the movement that
was launched by ACT in Gunung Sindur, Bogor. This movement will, hopefully,
inspire many people to help each other especially in providing food.
ACT West Sumatra
Branch Manager, Zeng Welf, said that this national movement is a humanitarian
action that involves all parts of society. They can donate staples to the Food
Alms Gathering Points to be taken home by those who need them. "As we
enter the “New Normal”, many people’s livelihoods have not returned to normal.
We find out on the ground that it still difficult for many people to obtain
food as their financial condition worsens”, explained Zeng.
The Food Alms
Gathering Points will be set up in mosques, schools, houses, offices and
supermarkets. Zeng added that, every 3 days, the ACT team will pick up the
staples from the Food Alms Gathering points that have been filled up to deliver
the food directly to the needy.
The head of the
Padang City Social Service Afriadi, Head of the Padang City Food Service
Guswardi, several communities and media partners attended the launching. It is
hoped that this movement will act as a solution to the community’s food problem
in the midst of the pandemic that has yet to recede.
"This
movement is open to everyone who wants to support regardless of regions and
backgrounds. Everyone can participate in this movement within their own
vicinity, send staple food to the Food Alms Gathering Points that have been set
up, send their best support through the Indonesia Dermawan website, or transfer
your donations to Bank Mandiri Syariah account number # 1111133553 in the name
of Aksi Cepat Tanggap Foundation," added Zeng. []
