ACTNews, MOJOKERTO — The farmers of Tumpangsari Hamlet, Jiyu Village, Kutorejo District, Mojokerto, East Java have no other choice but to take side jobs in order to fulfill their life necessities. One of them is Matsoim. As a farmer, he is obliged to take a side job as a farm laborer. Matsoim is working other people’s fields in order to get more income as his agricultural capital.
“Fertilizers are hardly available. Meanwhile, the price of rice has also been decreasing. Even to sell my crop at IDR 300,000 per 100 kilograms is difficult. Many don't want to buy at that price,” said Matsoim, Monday (04/11/2021).
Matsoim added, the price of unhusked rice will be decreasing even more during rainy season. Unhusked grains that contain much water are low in quality. He further admitted that the erratic price of grain due to seasonal factors has been going on for two years.
Productive Rice Field Waqf which has brought welfare to the farmers
Matsoim is very grateful for the presence of Productive Waqf initiated by Global Wakaf-ACT in his village. In the Productive Rice Field Waqf, the grain harvested by the farmers in Tumpangsari Hamlet will be bought by Global Wakaf-ACT atthe best price to be distributed to the underprivileged people through the Ramadan Food Alms Movement.
“After the Productive Rice Field Waqf is implemented, the situation becomes much better. I can sell my grain at a higher price rather than sell it to the previous places,” explained Matsoim.
Furthermore, Global Wakaf-ACT also has intervened since the planting phase. The seeds used are HMS700 type, which can reach 700 grains per panicle. Also, for the maintenance, the farmers also get funds and access to fertilizers. Therefore, they can maintain the rice quality and get maximum results.
“Alhamdulillah we don’t need to worry for suhoor and iftar money during Ramadan now, because the income is more secure through WSP program,” said Matsoim.
