ACTNews, LUMAJANG -- Survivors in Sumberwuluh Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang, East Java, flocked to flee to the village hall after Mount Semeru emitted hot clouds. Mount Semeru, located in Malang Regency and Lumajang Regency, emitted thick gray smoke, Saturday (12/4/2021) afternoon.
Based on a report by a member of Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI)-Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) Lumajang Ghifari Avicenna at 04.00 p.m, dark weather covered the area of Sumberwuluh Village. The survivors arrived at the Village Hall at 14.00 Western Indonesia Time. At that time, hot clouds had begun to cover the air.
"Currently, we are not sure how long the residents will remain evacuated. Residents also need emergency assistance such as food and drinking water," said Ghifari. The elderly and children have filled the evacuation tent.
He also explained the ash rain had subsided. However, some residents still wear raincoats and masks.
Officers observed the activation of Mount Semeru from the Semeru Volcano Observation Post at Gunung Sawur Post, Poncosumo Hamlet, Sumberwuluh Village. It showed that the vibrations of lava floods or the hot cloud avalanche began to occur at 02.47 p.m Western Indonesia Time. At 03.10 p.m, the officer at the observation post observed a hot cloud heading towards Besuki Kobokan.
The Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data and Information and Communication Center, through a press release, appealed to the public not to carry out activities along the Mujur and Curah Kobokan rivers.
