ACTNews, HULU SUNGAI UTARA – As a form of support for the Palestinians that are still dealing with the occupation by Israel, volunteers from Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) joint volunteers raised funds to help the people of Palestine. They are saddened by the recent escalations in which hundreds of Palestinians were martyred. Though a ceasefire has recently been signed, the blockade is still ongoing.

From May 17 to 23, they were going to the streets, including to Paliwara Bridge and Jalan Benua Lima intersection. In addition, they also raised funds online. The volunteers managed to collect over IDR 547 million by May 23. People are still donating even though the fundraising has been officially closed.

According to Nashiruddin, a volunteer from Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) of Hulu Sungai Utara Regency, he collaborated with volunteers from various groups to collect and raise funds for the Palestinian people. “Seeing the condition of our brothers and sisters in Palestine lately, we are driven to help. The Hulu Sungai Utara residents feel what the Palestinian people feel," said Nashiruddin, Thursday (6/2/2021).

The HSU residents, Nashiruddin said, gave their best donation during the fundraising. Some of them even donated their jewelry. “We were surprised that there were people who donated their gold to Palestine. It's amazing. Hopefully, our dream of providing an ambulance for the Palestinian people can be realized," added Nasiruddin.

Donations from the people of HSU Regency were handed over to Aksi Cepat Tanggap South Kalimantan on Monday (5/25/2021) afternoon at Siring Itik Park, Amuntai. The handover ceremony was attended by the HSU volunteers, HSU Regent Abdul Wahid and representatives of HSU Regional Leadership Coordination Forum.

Meanwhile, the representative of the HSU Joint Volunteers, Ahmad Rifa'i, thanked the community and the HSU Regency Government for welcoming and taking part in the fundraising that was held for one week. "I also thank all my fellow volunteers and the HSU community who raised awareness for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, both on the streets and through social media," he said.

On a separate occasion, ACT South Kalimantan Branch Manager Zainal Arifin appreciated what the volunteers and the HSU residents had done for Palestine. He is optimistic that assistance from volunteers and the community of HSU Regency can be realized to provide new ambulances in Palestine.

“An ambulance is urgently needed not only to anticipate the attacks but also to be used in the long term. These ambulances can benefit the Palestinian people at any time," said Zainal.[]
